The theme for the 2024 International Day revolves around “A Decade of Acknowledgment, Equity, and Progress: Enforcing the International Decade for People of African Descent.”
Persistent racial discrimination, alongside the enduring impacts of slavery and colonialism, persistently hinder lives and limit opportunities, depriving billions of individuals of their fundamental human rights and liberties.
This year’s theme is closely tied to the International Decade for People of African Descent, spanning from 2015 to 2024. Through this Decade, the global community acknowledges the distinct identity of people of African descent, advocating for the promotion and safeguarding of their human rights.
Approximately 200 million individuals identifying with African descent reside in the Americas, with many more millions residing in various regions worldwide, beyond the African continent.
